St Augustine’s

Sunday school

Here at St Augustine’s our Sunday school runs during our 9:30am service.

Sunday school is for children from toddlers up to year 12 we all start in the church with our families. Sunday school children leave just before the first reading.  They return to the church during the peace where the children join back with their families. This format of Sunday school fosters the idea of family worship and also allows the children to develop the feel of being part of the service.

What do the children do at Sunday school?
At Sunday school the children get to sing some children’s songs, and also get the bible readings of the Sunday told in a story format that is easier for them to understand. The children are divided into age groups and given a worksheet to complete normally with questions relating to the reading as well as some sort of puzzle that is also related to the reading. We also take up an offering at Sunday school a child is chosen to take the children’s offering forward with the stewards in the main service.

If a child lives with jealousy, he learns to hate.
If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns to be confident.
If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with praise, he learns to be appreciative.
If a child lives with acceptance, he learns to love.
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with recognition, he learns to have a goal.
If a child lives with sharing, he learns about generosity.
If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice.
If a child lives with honesty, he learns what truth is.
If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith in himself.
If a child lives with friendliness, he learns that the world is a nice place to live in."
